Schedule Full Time (50 hour work week)

Job Responsibility:

To support Bethany Church’s mission to Love, Obey and Proclaim Jesus Christ.  It does so through leadership and organization of the children’s programs at Bethany, including Sunday/Saturday School, mid-week fellowship, VBS, Awana and other special events. The foundational approach to success in this ministry is through equipping lay servants.

Job Purpose:

To develop vision with the Lead Pastor for the children’s ministry (nursery through 5th grade), consistent with plans for the overall church.  Lead the ministry toward that vision progressively.  Sustain growth in the children’s ministry each year.

Job Duties:

  • Lead and maintain a children’s ministry leadership team, developing its members in the spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Lead, support and develop volunteer leadership.
  • Oversee Sunday School coordinators and leaders for Nursery through 5th grade, including Awana’s and Vacation Bible School.
  • Develop/implement new programs to foster spiritual growth, connect families, outreach to the community and build relationships to get children excited about knowing, loving and serving Jesus Christ.
  • Oversee and assist in planning and implementation of special events.
  • Select curriculum for Sunday School and various programs with input from coordinators and leadership team.
  • Advertise children’s ministry events in the bulletin, monthly Bethany Post, community and website.
  • Staff meetings

Job requirements:

  • Degree in Christian education or children’s ministry
  • 3+ years leading in children’s ministry, and 5+ years active service in a Christian ministry
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Action-orientation and self-starter
  • Ability to relate to a wide variety of personalities and styles, while maintaining a positive experience and “customer focus” for the other person
  • Ability to enjoy and relate to children from birth through 5th grade
  • Good recruiter of unpaid servants through relational ministry
  • Computer proficiency, with Microsoft Office experience

General Description:

This position is a key member of the leadership team with the responsibility of taking people from the market place to full participation in the church. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up an assimilation system that takes people from the market place to full participation in the church

  • Respond to every first time visitor who signs in with 24-48 hours and reports the results to lead pastor

  • Follow up on first time visitors to insure they return for a second visit

  • Sets up fishing pools (social events under 100 where people come together, both members and non-members, and where your spiritual leaders and small group people go fishing for potential converts or group members)

  • Keep the issue of reaching the unchurched before the staff and every program attempted by the church

  • Recruit and support a Parking lot team to cover every worship service 15 minutes before and after each service begins

  • Recruits and supports a Hospitality Team to insure there are greeters, two people to man the information booth 15 minutes prior to and after a service begins, decision booth (if you have one), and refreshments

  • Conducts regular membership training sessions (does not necessarily do all of it).

  • Sets up monthly or weekly servant evangelism ministries

  • Oversees and insures that marketing is done around key times of the year or key sermon series

  • Create ways to increase the level of awareness of Bethany Church within the community

  • Develop, disciple and multiply leaders

  • Nights & Weekends required

  • Other duties as assigned

Work experience requirements:

  • 3 – 5 years leadership and management experience

  • 3 – 5 years marketing or advertising experience

  • 3 – 5 years of experience with churches greater than 1500 members

  • 3 – 5 years of church staff or lay leadership experience

Education Requirements:

  • College degree or seminary degree is required

Other Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be a mature growing follower of Jesus Christ

  • Excellent relational and interpersonal communication skills

  • Passionate and high energy leader

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Team Player

  • Computer literate and solid user of PC/software
