Saving God’s Children Update

Traci Llado is in charge of this program. She needs continued support for our children in Jamaica, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Ghana. Gordon took $1800 with him on his recent trip to Kenya. This will deplete our Africa funds for our children. Please ask God if you are called to be a sponsor for a child in Africa. Please contact Traci if you have any questions: lladot@rcn.com.

Jamaica Update

The team of Sandy and Jay Cogley, John Long, Carol Stevens, Karen Miller and Gordon returned in early February from a five day trip to see the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf. We presented the Christmas Eve offering gift to the school and interviewed the children for our sponsors. Sandy has a power point presentation of the children and an update on each child. She will have this in the fellowship area between worship services for you to view. Sandy and Jay have volunteered to lead the team to Jamaica every year to visit the children and see what is happening at the school. If you are interested in going, then please contact Jay and or Sandy: skijay0520@yahoo.com. Gordon took some videos which can be seen on Youtube: Click here to view video

Gulfport, MS Update

Hello Friends of Camp Love,

We have worked through another month, already! Time goes by quickly here, but News Flash: It was announced at our last meeting that Katrina Recovery has been good stewards, and the teams have done such a good job of raising funds for our projects, THAT we will not be closing the doors on March 31, 2012, but will stay until July 28, 2012!  That is 4 more months to get a few more homes fixed up as we still have calls coming in.  Thank you for the great support!

So-o-o-o-o, if you are interested in coming back to Camp Love or Camp Hope the first half of next year, please contact Beth at 866-435-7091 or disastercenter@meridianumc.org.

We are still "winding down" but not as quickly as we had thought. As promised last month, I have attached photos of Lois Pelaze's home, "The Extreme Makeover". There is a "before"(although there IS already one new window installed) and "after" (exterior completed) shot.  Unfortunately the interior work has been slowed down by code regulations, the subcontractors' schedule and getting inspections passed.  We have had to completely gut the home, instead of just doing the back half, as was originally approved.  Inside, the old 7' walls are down and new stud walls up, but the insulation and sheetrock work has not yet started.  We are hoping it will get to, later this week.

Doris Thigpen's home has continued to proceed quicker than expected, since other projects were on hold for one reason or another.  The sheetrock is all hung and ready to start the mudding.  It will slow down because we can finally work on Jamie Irby's home that had been on hold for quite a while.

We wish we could just zip right through all of our projects and get the owners back in quickly.  But, since all of you have been here, you KNOW there are many things that can slow them down! Sylvia Fleming's dedication is set for March 10 at 3:45 pm, if any of you would like to send her cards or best wishes.  She may not be able to move in by that date, however.  We are still waiting on the city services to do their work.  John Holquist's home is getting the final touches, but won't get a CO until the old trailer has been removed and the utilities have been turned on. Allena Ladner's home was painted, inside and out, last week.  The team painted the granddaughter's room bright pink & purple, and she LOVES it! As we enter the season of Lent, may we remember that all of us have to walk through some kind of shadow-land.  For some it is waiting for 5 year old Katrina damage to their homes to be repaired, but we also know that many of our volunteers are also going through some sort of trial even as they reach out to help our homeowners.  Stan & I pray for blessings for each one of you who have served the Master Carpenter through our organization.
