How do I start Teaching My Preschooler about God?

It is every parents desire to make sure that their children are developing as well rounded and complete individuals.  This development begins with the formative preschool years and that is why a Bethany Preschool program is so important. We offer a Christ centered environment where the child can learn healthy habits in the area of social interaction, academics, nutrition, health and most importantly we work with the family to help your child grow spiritually. Here are three simple tips and ideas to encourage you and begin your journey.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs  22:6)  The biggest influence in the life of any child is the parents.  As parents we need to model what faith means. We need to model to them how important it is to attend Church services, sing out in worship, pray with them, and frequently give God thanks, these actions all model the Christian walk in a way your child can understand and emulate.  You can take your child with you to donate items to your local food bank or second hand store this will show him/her how God has blessed them and how He wants us to help others.

“Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it” (Luke 18:17). In this passage, Christ is speaking about the wonderful simple faith of a child.  Children today are told about Superman, Spiderman, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus. We, as parents, need to teach them that there is a God who loves them and cares for them even if we cannot see Him

“Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 11:19)  We need to teach the word of God to the children with stories from the bible.  My advice, get a children’s Bible. There are story Bibles, adventure Bibles, and illustrated Bibles.  These have all been put together in a format and language to meet your children where they are at.  To promote Christian dialog between you and your child, make reading from the Bible a part of your child’s daily routine, maybe before dinner or before watching TV or playing on the Xbox. I promise you these will be the most important lessons your child will ever learn and they will last for eternity.
