Hospital Visits

Hospital Visits-If you, or a family member, are going to the hospital, please call the office and let us know. When you register, please use our Church Code 747. They may no longer call us, but we can ask if anyone is registered. If you have questions call 610-395-3613.

When is Church Cancelled?

Knowing when the church is closed because of weather is important.

If Worship services are cancelled on Saturday night or Sunday morning, a Blended service at 1:00 p.m., a Contemporary service at 3:00 p.m. will be offered at the Macungie Campus. Weather permitting. Please continue to check the status of our Worship services on WFMZ and Bethany’s website. Additionally, we will utilize a phone tree, which will update you on the status of Worship services on those particular weekends.

Spring Cleanup  Coming soon to a campus near you!  It’s that time of year again to ask for assistance to help beautify the Wescosville and Macungie campuses.  Join us on Saturday, April 21 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 

Fabric Donations The sewing ladies from Bethany are making some large banners to be hung in the church at Macungie. We would appreciate donations of cotton fabric in the colors of white, cream, light and dark blue, purple, mauve, yellow, red, teal and green. If the fabric has a small print, we may be able to use it, but no large print please. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Meet & Greet Movie Night with the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks.  This is a free event at Bethany Church in Catasauqua on Friday, May 18.  Meet and greet the LV Steel Hawks’ football players at 6:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. watch about a super nice, super gentle bull that does not want to fight in the ring on the Big Screen in the Sanctuary with popcorn and water provided.  Feel free to bring your own snacks and beverages as well.  We will have a limited number of autographed footballs for the children. 

Locust Lake We are planning a day at Locust Lake State Park on Saturday, May 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is a great family oriented Park with a variety of activities to do: bring your fishing poles to fish at the lake, bring your bikes to ride around the lake’s flat trail, hike through the woods on a trail, rent a paddle boat or canoe, wear your swimsuit if you want to swim, or bring a chair to sit by the lake and campfire. We plan to build a campfire and cook hot dogs for a late lunch. Meet at the visitor parking lot at 11:00 a.m. This is a great opportunity for some old fashioned fun and relaxation!

SAVE THE DATE! Brashear Celebration Worship Service Join us for worship and a  time of celebration on June 17 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a time of fellowship.

Memory Chest Over the next few months we will be highlighting Pastor Jim and Gloria’s work to recognize how the Lord has blessed Bethany. Please reflect on how you have been blessed here at Bethany and share your thoughts with us. We will be accepting letters, emails, photos and videos, and highlighting memories leading up to the Brashear’s celebration worship service on June 17. There is a memory box in the narthex at the Information Desk and a link on our website to submit your memories. 

Grace Performing Arts GPA, a ministry of Bethany Church, is now offering private lessons in piano and voice to students of all ages, beginner to advanced. Lessons are held in the Wescosville Chapel by Abigail Martin, professional opera singer and musician. For more information, please visit www.GracePerformingArts.org or contact the church office.

Compassion Carpool Volunteers are needed to take parishioners who were recently in the hospital to doctor appointments and to therapy appointments. If you are able to serve in this mission, please contact the church office at 610-395-3613.

Hospitality, Ushers and Greeters are needed for all services. Contact Donna Long in the church office.

Grace Café / Hospitality  Donations needed for Saturday and Sunday Fellowship time.  We would like to try to get some healthy snacks: Animal Crackers, Pretzels, Cheese, Fruit, Carrots and Celery.  With spring and summer right around the corner, we will also begin taking donations of powdered lemonade.

Bethany Book In each row there is a black binder know as the Bethany Book. Inside you will find special inserts, connection cards, offering envelopes, pens and weekly sign-up sheets for various opportunities and events at Bethany. Please be sure to pass the book down the row for everyone to see.

Info Desk Would you be able to come to worship service 20 minutes early and sit behind the info desk to answer any questions people might have? If interested please contact Keri Crawford.

Children's Ministry

VBS Leadership Openings  VBS is one of the best times of the year!  Help bring this impactful and fun ministry to life by joining the leadership team!  Volunteers on the team meet several Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Wescosville prior to the start of VBS.  Please prayerfully consider using your spiritual gifts to serve with us!  If you are interested or need more info., contact Marleah Doyle at mdoyle@bethanyumchurch.com

VBS 2018  This year’s Vacation Bible School “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus” will take place the week of June 25 – June 29.   Register online starting April 7. Go to the Children’s page on Bethany’s website for the registration form and information. Register for AM and PM sessions.

Youth and AWANA Wednesday Night Dinners have Begun!  We invite you to dine at the church on Wednesday nights. Dinner will be offered in Fellowship Hall from 5:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. for families prior to the start of service, Awana, and Wednesday night youth group.  We ask that each familycontribute a small donation to cover the cost of the meal or sign up to prepare a meal.  Join us for good food and fellowship!

AWANA  is Bethany’s kid’s club, for children ages 2 years old – 4th grade, where kids learn more about God’s love.  Join us every Wednesday night from 6:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. at Wescosville. Upcoming Awana Theme Nights:  April 25—Egg Night: Salvation Celebration.

 

 

Youth Ministry

Bethany Student Ministry Prayer Vigil  Please join us in a series of prayer events to purposely place the ministry to the youth in consistent and concentrated prayer.  Bethany Student Ministry is sponsoring another 12-hour prayer vigil for our youth ministry on May 19 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Please view the youth Facebook page for instructions to sign up or look for the sign up sheet in the narthex starting today.

SR. High Small Groups This is a great opportunity for your SR. High students to join in a great time of studying the Word of God and fellowship. Sunday nights 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. forstudents in grades 9th – 12th at the Wescosville campus. 

JR. High Small Groups This JR. High meeting time is geared to have a time of fun and fellowship, and to discuss how to apply God’s word in our daily life. Wednesday nights 6:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. for students in grades 5th – 8th at the Wescosville campus. 

Friday Nights Plugged-In Café  This is a great time to gather with friends and fellowship with one another with great food, games and fun.  Everyone in JR. and SR. High is invited, so bring a friend and come to Plugged In Café, Friday nights 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  There are nights for both JR. and SR. High, as well as combined events.  Please see the youth calendar for those dates

 

 

 

Men's Ministry

Men’s Breakfast  Our next breakfast is Saturday, May 19 at 8:30 a.m. in Carlson Hall. Our speaker is Joe Riley, Discovering Priorities. New Youth/Boys Activities – After the meal, there will be fun activities focused on building friendships and having something physical to do. There is a $5 cover charge to help with the cost of breakfast. We hope to see you there!

Women's Ministry

Priscilla Shirer Simulcast  Join us for a Potluck Lunch in Fellowship Hall on Saturday, May 5 from 8:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Drinks and snack provided.  Come in PJ’s or comfy clothes and bring blankets!

Women’s Breakfast  Join us on Saturday, May 12 at 9:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall for our potluck breakfast.  Bring a dish, a friend and a joyful spirit.  Speaker:  Tracy Weaver, on the topic: Tragedy to Triumph.

Women’s Retreat  This weekend retreat, Identity in Christ, is being hosted by the Women’s Ministry.  Join us for a weekend of prayer, teachings, worship, fellowship and fun.  $25 reserves your spot.  Email Carol Hockman at hairloom12@yahoo.com to sign up.  It is located at Bear Creek Camp in Wilkes-Barre, PA on October 26 – 28.   

Facebook Did you know that the women have a Facebook page? It is a private site where we share prayer requests, give announcements and share our events. All ladies of our church are invited to find us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/BethanyUMChurchwomen

Purls: Join this group of ladies on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Studio, as they stitch prayer shawls, lap robes and baby blankets for those in need. All stitched items are prayed over before giving them to the recipient. Shawls and lap robes are also donated to various nursing homes. This month, they will also be stitching winter hats, mittens and scarves for children in Allentown. ALL knitters, loomers, crochet stitchers or want-to-be stitchers are welcome to come at any time. Small Groups Ministry

Celebrate Recovery Celebrate Recovery meets EVERY Thursday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. For anyone over 18 dealing with hurts, habits or hang-ups; not just addiction We have found, through Christ, healing can be found.

Friday Night Fellowship Join us on May 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall for an evening of great food, fellowship and lots of fun. This month will feature tacos for dinner, followed by some of our favorite games that we’ve featured over the past year. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and spend time with friends. Special Needs Ministry

Special Muffins from Special People  Hand in Hand Ministry along with Waggies LV are baking for your pleasure!  Come see us at Grace Café next month.  Donations are needed!  This will help with supplies and help support our employees.  For more information please contact Lisa Lacko at edlacko@ptd.net.   

Duke’s Delights  Hand in Hand Ministry with Duke’s Delights, a division of the Love Ran Red Foundation are selling specialty hand made dog biscuits.  These special treats are made with love for your furry friends.  Please see our table next month in the church lobby before and after services.  For opportunities to help sell these special furry treats at your local business, contact Mimi Ludwig at mlludwig@ptd.net .

Fun Night Out Join us on Saturday, April 28 for our next Fun Night Out from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Macungie campus. We will have music, dancing, games, snacks, food and fun. if this is your first time having your child, teen or young adult after filling out our “Get to Know You” form. HURRICANE VICTIM RELIEF

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) spends 100% of your donation on the project you select.  All operative and administrative costs are paid for out of General Boards.  If you would like to donate to the victim relief from the hurricanes, please go to www.umcor.org and highlight national disasters.  Read about the latest info and make a donation.  Thank you for caring.

Food Pantry and Allentown Children's Project

Food Pantry and Allentown Children’s Project  Help us fill 28 bags every week for the Allentown Children’s Project plus the emergency food bags for people that come in off the street. Each bag gets at least 1 box of cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned chicken or tuna, fruit or pudding, chili or beef stew, soup, mac-n-cheese, spaghetti and sauce, etc. WE CANNOT ACCEPT BABY FOOD. Please no expired items.
