Dan Heinmets

Executive Director

I was born and raised in the New York City area and am the youngest of 6 children. My father was from Estonia and my mother from Sweden. My older siblings were born in Sweden and I actually spoke Swedish before English but don’t test me on it as it’s been awhile since I’ve spoken it. My father was a pastor and I grew up attending Trinity Baptist Church on East 61st.

After High School I attended Wheaton College outside Chicago for 2 years and then came back to NYC. My wife, Karen and I met at the Church’s coffee hour in 1984 and were married in 1988. Our daughter, Stephanie was born in Manhattan in 1989 and our sons John and Peter were born in White Plains, NY in 1994 and 1996.

Karen and I lived and worked in the NYC area until 2003 when we moved to Macungie, PA. I worked for the phone company (NY Telephone, NYNEX, Bell Atlantic and Verizon-same company different names) for 15 years; I also was partner in K & H builders, a licensed builder in the NY area and most recently a Project Manager at Lutron Electronics, Co. While working for the phone company I received my Bachelors’ degree from Purchase College and then an MBA from Long Island University.

When we moved to PA we did not initially attend Bethany and after not being able to plug into the church we were attending we came to Bethany in 2005 and, as many of you have experienced, immediately felt the Spirit moving in this place. We have been calling it home ever since. While at Bethany I have had the opportunity to lead an adult Sunday school class, a senior high Sunday school class and I have been on Council and Chair of SPR. While chair of SPR, I began to struggle with the sense that God wanted me to do more for Him and after much prayer and counsel I realized that I need to be using whatever gifts, talents and abilities God has given me for His glory and honor. I thank you for giving me the privilege to serve as Executive Director and I look forward to what God has planned not only for Bethany but for me and my family.
